Experience the rhythms, music, and movement of Africa! Join us for a children’s music program to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Connecticut Cultural Heritage Arts Program. Ugandan master musician Gideon Ampeire will share the music, instruments and dances of Uganda in two workshops designed for children and their families. Join us for one or both workshops, and make a musical craft to take home!
10:30 – 11:15 AM: Family Music for Children Ages 3-5
Parents and young children can have fun while taking part in various aspects of traditional African culture. Families will learn together as they experience the music, dance, and storytelling of various parts of Africa.
11:30 AM – 12:15 PM: Youth African Music for Children Ages 6-11
Experience the traditional music and culture of East Africa! Learn how to play various African musical instruments, practice call and response songs, and perform a musical piece as a group. Formal music training is not required.
