Exhibition Opening Reception: New Collections at CMCH

We invite CMCH members and special guests to join us for the opening reception of New Collections at CMCH.

Annually, in coordination with the Connecticut Spring Show sponsored by the Haddam Historical Society, the CMCH mounts an exhibition that focuses on decorative arts from its collection. This year, the CMCH’s exhibition will highlight new acquisitions inspired by the Spring Show’s theme Arts and Objects Through the Ages. The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History has collected objects, furniture, images, and ephemera since 1825. At any given time only 2-4% of our collection is on view. In this exhibit you will see some of the best new objects that have come in to the collection over the past four years. All of these objects were acquired because they help further CMCH’s mission of connecting you to the story of Connecticut. Each object in this exhibit has a story which fits into the larger story of Connecticut’s history.

Items in the show will include a rare desk made by David Goodell (1753-1817) of Pomfret, CT, a landscape oil painting from 1873 by Isabella Vaill Waldo of Scotland, CT, straw hats worn by Katharine Hepburn, and a thermometer made by the prestigious Hartford shop Kneeland & Adams.
