Celebrate the 200th anniversary of President James Monroe’s visit to Hartford!
During the summer of 1817, President James Monroe went on a “Tour of Inspection” through the Northern States and stopped to visit Hartford on June 23rd. During his visit he met students at the American School for the Deaf. Monroe’s “old-fashioned” bicorn hat became the inspiration for the American Sign Language sign for “president.” Celebrate this historic visit and drop-in to make your own paper “bicorn hat!”
