We invite all CMCH members to join us for the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History Annual Members’ Meeting to hear about the achievements of the past year.
We are also celebrating the opening of A Place for All People: Introducing the National Museum of African American History and Culture–a commemorative poster exhibit presenting the opening of the Smithsonian’s newest museum. Based on the inaugural exhibitions of the museum, the posters highlight key artifacts that tell the rich and diverse story of the African American experience. In addition to the poster display, the CMCH will showcase related objects from our permanent collection.
We are also inviting Dr. Damion Thomas, the Museum Curator of Sports for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Dr. Thomas will talk about the development of the Sports Gallery at the new museum, and how sports can illustrate key moments and ideas in history. He will share his curatorial vision and behind-the-scenes details of creating the gallery.
The schedule of the evening:
5:00-5:30 pm: Members-only exhibit opening and pre-reception
5:30-6:15 pm: Annual Members’ Meeting
6:30-7:30 pm: “Leveling the Playing Field: The Sports Gallery at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture” by Dr. Damion Thomas
Please let us know if you will be joining us by phone (860) 236-5621 x238 or by email at rsvp@chs.org.
