Join us on Free First Saturday as we remember those who served in World War I and those serving in the armed forces today.
One hundred years ago on November 11, 1918, World War I came to an end. On November 11 each year, countries around the world commemorate November 11 as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, and Veteran’s Day, to remember the sacrifices made by men and women in World War I, and those who have served in the military in the past and today.
Learn about the history of these holidays at Free First Saturday on November 3. Kids and families can create a unique poppy pin, and make a card or postcard to send to military service members from Connecticut who are deployed around the world. These cards will be sent with the personal care items we are currently collecting in partnership with Blue Star Mothers of America. Learn more here.
To learn more about Connecticut men and women who were involved in World War I, families can explore the exhibit Facing War: Connecticut in World War I and play in our reproduction Y.M.C.A. hut.
