The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History offers a selection of hands-on, interactive programs for scout groups.
The programs listed below are also available as hour-long outreach programs brought directly to you! Outreach programs are $150 per program plus $0.65 per mile for roundtrip.

Girl Scout Programs
Program Length: 1 1/2 hours
Cost: $8 for each scout; troop leader free; $3 for each additional chaperone and siblings over the age of 5.
Celebrating Community
Recommended for scouts ages 7-9
What makes a community? Scouts will explore the answer to this question by using a large floor map and building-shaped blocks to create an ideal community, completing a craft to identify what communities they belong to, and exploring the Making Connecticut exhibit to learn about the symbols and stories of our state.

Playing the Past: Life in Colonial Connecticut
Recommended for scouts ages 8-11
Step into the past and learn about the daily experiences of colonial girls. Scouts will explore life in colonial Connecticut by trying chores, designing their own colonial outfit, and playing with historic toys. Scouts then use these experiences, their imaginations, and a quill pen to write a diary entry about what their life would have been like as colonial girls.

Inside Government
Recommended for scouts ages 9-12
Go inside Connecticut’s state government and discover what makes an active citizen. Through role-playing, historical documents, and props, scouts will learn about the three branches of state government, elect a governor from their troop, and debate a bill. Scouts then visit the Making Connecticut exhibit to learn how citizens can make a difference and make a poster for a cause they believe in.

Agent of Change: The Fight for Woman Suffrage
Recommended for scouts ages 9-12
Discover what it takes to become and agent of change! By investigating primary sources, scouts will learn about two Connecticut women who acted as agents of change during the Suffrage Movement. Scouts will then make a protest sign, vote, and work together to identify the many ways they can become an agent of change in their own community.

Boy Scout Programs
Program Length: 1 ½ hours
Cost: $8 for each scout; troop leader free; $3 for each additional chaperone and siblings over the age of 5.
Stories in Shapes
Recommended for scouts ages 6-8
What can you create using basic shapes? Using quilts from the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History’s collection as inspiration, scouts will create their own mixed media artwork by transforming basic shapes into geometric patterns.

Finding Your Way
Recommended for scouts ages 7-9
Can you find your way through the museum? Scouts will learn to read maps, decipher map keys, and practice using a compass. Then, they will put their new navigational skills to the test with a scavenger hunt through the museum!

Art Explosion: Landscapes, Portraits, and More!
Recommended for scouts ages 8-11
Learn about various artistic techniques, explore the stories behind the artwork, and create your own works of art to share with your den!

Paws for Action: All Things Connecticut
Recommended for scouts ages 10-12
What makes our state so special? During this program, scouts will learn about famous Connecticut people, places, events, and products.

Merit Badge Programs
Program length: 2 ½ hours
Cost: $15 per scout; $75 minimum; troop leader free; $3 for each additional chaperone
Genealogy Merit Badge Workshop
Recommended for scouts ages 10+
During this workshop, scouts will explore the importance of genealogy, investigate the various types of genealogical records, and learn how to analyze primary sources. Through the use of online databases and close-looking at historic documents from our Research Center, scouts will begin to uncover a family’s unique history. This workshop is not available as an outreach program.
