Exhibit Opening Reception: Passing It On: Traditional Arts Apprenticeships

Several artists who have participated in the Southern New England Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program will
demonstrate and perform at a reception for the exhibit Passing It On: Traditional Arts Apprenticeships.  Art forms
presented will include Mexican mariachi music, Lebanese singing, Portuguese accordion playing, Somali Bantu basket
making, and decorative woodcarving.

The event takes place at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History,           1 Elizabeth St., Hartford from 5:30 – 7:30pm on Thursday February 1 (snow date Feb. 2). The event is free and open to the public.

The Southern New England Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program connects masters of a folk or traditional art form
with qualified students to teach artistic skills and cultural knowledge through the classic apprenticeship model of
regular, informal, intensive one-on-one learning over several months. The program knits together artists from the same
ethnic or occupational group across state lines to share traditions and stimulate new learning.  Find out more
