Outdoor Concert Series: Negrura Peruana performing perform the music and dance of African Peru

The CMCH Outdoor Concert series presents the work of the Connecticut Cultural Heritage Arts Program (CCHAP), a statewide initiative that documents diverse cultural traditions and shares the artistic creations and community cultural practices of folk artists living throughout Connecticut.

On July 20 (rain date July 21) Negrura Peruana will perform the music and dance of African Peru, a dynamic blend of several percussion instruments, vocals, guitar, and dance.  Growing up in Lima, members of the group heard and played these styles all their lives, with music as a central part of community celebrations, gatherings, and informal competitions. Now living in central Connecticut, members of Negrura Peruana continue to enchant audiences with their infectious rhythms, and they involve the next generation of Peruvian drummers through teaching and performance.

All concerts are free. Grounds open at 5:00 pm and concerts will play from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

Please bring your own camp chairs and picnics.
